![]() Next week, we will start by looking at decimals (ordering them, knowing them as fractions and percentages etc.) We will then move on to Probability, using words like Impossible, Certain and Possible. Try these games to get you warmed up! Monday - Fractions and http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/ks2_activities/maths/decimals.shtml http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks2numeracy-properties-and-ordering.html (Fractions Ordering) Tuesday / Wednesday - Probability http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/ks2_activities/maths/probability.shtml or the more up to date: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/data/probability/play/ Next week, we will be looking at a few areas we have found hard on our assessments recently: Monday - Time (and Timetables) http://www.maths-games.org/time-games.html http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/maths/timetables/index.htm Tuesday - Algebra (Remember the custard and Homer Simpson?) http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks2numeracy-calculation.html (Try the Mission Algebra challenge) Thursday - Rules of Divisibility http://www.basic-mathematics.com/divisibility-rules-game.html Next week, we will be looking at negative numbers, although hopefully the temperature won't say -10 degrees! We will also look at fact families: From 2 x 8 = 16, we also know that 8 x 2 = 16, 16 divided by 2 = 8 and 16 divided by 8 = 2. This is useful because we can use these inverses to check our calculations. If I did 235 + 346 = 581, I could check by doing 581 - 346 and if the answer is 235, I know I'm right! Here are the week's weblinks for games - Keep practising! Monday - Negative Numbers http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=HigherAndLower plus the game below Tuesday - Fact Families and Inverses http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=triangularcardsv4 http://nrich.maths.org/6290 Wednesday - Balancing calculations http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=CalcBalancev5 Next week, we will be looking at various ways of presenting data: bar graphs, pictograms, line graphs and pie charts. Here are some games to get you started: http://www.topmarks.co.uk/interactive.aspx?cat=28 Here you can read about the different charts: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/data/frequency_diagrams/read/1/
Next week, we will be solving word problems using division, then looking at various word problems related to money. Here are some warm up activities: Division These games should shake off the Christmas Turkey: http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks2numeracy-division.html Money http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/ks2_activities/maths/problem_solving.shtml Below are two videos to revise dividing (thanks to St. Peters' Primary for them) After our successful work on coordinates (drawing Santa and other Christmas items), we are going to start moving shapes by Reflecting - flipping Translating - moving Rotating - turning As always, here are the games to help with your learning! Monday http://hotmath.com/hotmath_help/games/ctf/ctf_hotmath.swf Tuesday http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/shape_space/symmetry/play/ Wednesday / Thursday - See the game below Next week, we will be learning about proportion (just fractions really) and ratio! Then on Thursday, you will review area and perimeter. Before you have a go at the games, look at the work Mr Patterson's class did on it last week: http://5tanfieldlea.weebly.com/1/post/2013/11/ratios-in-sweets.html Here are the links to the week's games: Monday http://www.arcademics.com/games/dirt-bike-proportions/dirt-bike-proportions.html Tuesday http://www.arcademicskillbuilders.com/games/ratio-stadium/ratio-stadium.html Thursday We will look at area and perimeter. Here is one my favourite raps to remember what the perimeter is: |
