In Big Writing today, we developed arguments about whether to leave Bryher wracked by storms by adding 'posh' openers and facts to strengthen our ideas. We, of course, used our 'posh' voices to record them!
After last time's fabulous efforts, who is the poshest here? Wow! Our classpals have been busy!
Below are letters from Taiwan, Indonesia and Nepal. We've also been getting emails from our friend in Wellford Academy, USA. Letter from Indonesia Dear Year 6 Hello! My name is Ms. Yani, I am one of the homeroom teachers of grade 5 Musi at Sekolah Victory Plus, Bekasi, Indonesia. Thank you for accepting my ClassPals request! Letters from Taiwan Dear friends, Here are some of the answers you asked us. 1. What is it like in Taiwan? The weather here is very warm, sunny and wet. The people here are friendly and passionate.Taiwan abounds in fresh, sweet tropic fruit. And there is no lack of beautiful seceneries, for example, beautiful beaches in Kenting, and the Taroko Gorge in Hualien . But I think that the most special thing for you is the night market. We often go out with family or friends after dinner, and night market is a good place for people who want to relax after a working or school day. Good snack, games, and drinks, you can have a lot fun in there. 2. What's the name of your school? The name of my school is Kaohsiung Municipal Fo-Gong Elementary School. 3.What's your favorite subject in school? My favorite subject is English. Because we always sing and dance in the class, that's funny! 4. What's the most commen pet in your country? Dogs and cats are popular. There is a Cultural Center in Kaohsiung, many people will walk their dogs there and enjoy a beautiful afternoon. 5. What type of music do you listen to? I listen to pop music of Taiwan like Jay Chou, Jolin Tsai and May Day. I listen to K-pop music, too. Girls' Generation, Super Junior, CNBLUE. 6. What kinds of things do you celebrate? We celebrate the Chinese New Year in January or February. We gather around the table to eat Lunar New Year's Eve dinner, and children receive red envelopes from their parents. And paste spring couplets on the gateposts. 7.What's your culture like? Taiwanese culture is a culture of mixed Confucian culture, Japan, Europe and the United States.Roughly divided in aboriginal Culture, Hakka culture, and Han culture. In recent years, Taiwan has increased a number of foreign brides from Southeast Asia, these new immigrants bring some new culture. 8.What do you do for your Hobbies? I enjoy watching TV, listening to music, painting and playing basketball with my friends. 9. What have you been learning about? In Taiwan, we have to learn many things. Math, Chinese, and mother tongue, I have been learning from one grade. Science, History, Geography, Civics, and English, I have been learning from third grade. 10. Do you know any facts about World War II which we have been learning about? Comparing with the part of Europe, I think that I know more about China and Japan's wars. I think that If WWII had never happened, Taiwan might have been a part of China today and the leader of China might were not the communists. Of course, mentioned above is just my guess. As everyone knows, the US dropped the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki , and that brought an end to WWII. Japanese paid the price for their ambition. But my opinion is that war is cruel and uncivilized, so we should use more wise way to solve problems. Thanks for all the questions, we had fun answering them. The way we say goodbye is "zai jian(?A??) "and it means "see you", or just say "bye bye". Zai jian! Yours Sincerely, Ming-shuang (Linlin's student) From: G6, Fo Gong Elementary School, Chen-Jeng, Taiwan Letters from Nepal Dear Year 6 Hello ClassPals, We are now getting ready for our final examinations - third week of March. Some of us from class 5, 6 and 7 had an opportunity to go to a photo exhibition. It was our first time to go to such an event. We enjoyed a lot and took many photographs ... with the chief guest, organizers, photographers and so on. The exhibition was entitled "EVERYDAY EPIPHANIES: A Nepal Retrospective 1994-2012", Photographs by Frédéric Lecloux / Vu’ Agency at the ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE OF KATHMANDU. More photos and details can be seen at the following links: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151268593329033.456089.189768504032 From Harsha Girls Harsha Home, Kathmandu, Nepal Wow! Our classpals in Taiwan and now USA have sent us video messages.
They're brilliant - Find Peanut Butter and Jelly (the American pet frogs) or check out Fo-Gong's lovely welcome to us! As we said, unfortunately our version of Flash player won't let us watch it in school yet; however, you can enjoy it here. Video from Fo Gong Elementary, Taiwan: http://animoto.com/play/TGrtUpLxZW9vn5kI0ZLILQ Video from Spoonsclass in USA: http://animoto.com/play/UlWBgMJEsTJ2CFg58CrqKg Don't forget to leave comments here or on their blogs! I was out at the cinema tonight and when I returned, I discovered we had had 76 hits on the class website. What a pleasant surprise! It seems that lots of the visitors were from Wellford Academy in South Carolina. They were impressed with what we've been doing; Abbie and Kendall even left comments on a couple of our sites!
If you can, check out their website (found here), and leave a comment! I'm off there now to find out what they get up to (I might even 'borrow' a few ideas). Update: I've been on some of the Wellford sites. Try Devlin's blog on types of dogs, or some of the Me poems. Could you write your own for your site, or add it as a comment to theirs? Enjoy the last few days of the holidays. Did you spot the flags on the Flag Counter? We have had visitors from USA, Indonesia and Nepal. We have even had a commenter (Amanda) from Indonesia! Thanks, Amanda, we really appreciate your comments and your English is so good. I'm sure some of the children will reply after our Easter holidays.
In other news, through Oddizzi, we have received a postcard from Spoonsclass, S. Carolina, who we wrote to before the holidays, which is really exciting. I've put the links to their website here. Also, we have received a card from a school in Nepal and have also linked up with a school in Spain - Wow! So, get your thinking caps on, and do some research on those countries! Also, think about a Blog entry you could do to keep your website fresh.....Snow at Easter? Easter Egg Hunt stories? Enjoy the holidays (and I hope the SATs homework is going well ;) ) |
