Mrs Hills, one of our governors, spoke today about the experiences of a brave young RAF pilot (Thomas Anderson) and a young girl during WWII. Mrs Hills shared anecdotes like the time she asked an American 'giant' for some chewing gum!
The children listened very carefully and asked some great questions like: How old were you during the War? (Drew) Did a bomb ever drop near your house? (Abbie) Did you get evacuated? (Lucy) Did you have any evacuees living in your village? (Sophie) How did it feel being in the war? (Martine) We were very lucky to have this experience and would like to thank Mrs Hills for her time. Please use this space to show Mrs Hills what you have learnt. Since our homework about World War II, visitors from 2 new countries have visited us. No doubt it was to read your superb writing! The countries' flags have the letters: MY and KH in the Flag Counters at the bottom. 2 team points for each country correctly identified. Ultimate challenge: 30 countries have now visited our site. A reward will go to someone who can identify all 30! Don't forget to use Oddizzi to help you (the login and password should be in your Organiser). On Monday, one of our pupils brought in some their relatives' World War I and II medals.
One was the Atlantic Star. Can you read the name of the Royal Navy ship? It's such an appropriate word! This week's 100 word challenge is to write using the following prompt:
..... as the bombs dropped..... You have 100 words plus the 4 in the prompt. Really think hard about the words you use and don’t forget to make your pieces as exciting and creative as possible. Remember this is a good opportunity to practise the following: Openers with commas Connectives (because, thus, consequently, however, which/who) A range of punctuation ( ) “ ” Including questions Proofreading when you are finished for capitals and punctuation (Remember 2 lines needs a full stop, and don't write i when you mean I!) The world is watching. We now have viewers from 28 different countries and they want to see YOUR writing! Note: Please also leave comments on 2 of your friends’ work online, so we all get feedback. Today we learnt about writing (and performing) play scripts. Listen to the scripts below.
Sorry to Ebony (for missing a capital letter) and Martine, whose name has become Martinez! Listen out for the various sound effects. Which is your favourite? |
